A Natural Partnership
The Principality of Monaco has always taken a keen interest in environmental causes. H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, eager to help reconcile humanity and nature, established his eponymous Foundation in June 2006, with the mission of bringing together various stakeholders around a common issue and proposing solutions that actively work to protect the environment. As early as 2008, the Foundation supported the WWF’s efforts to safeguard Mediterranean bluefin tuna; it has also been actively engaged at the international level to reduce fishing quotas, thereby highlighting the importance of preserving marine resources.

Building on this commitment, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation enthusiastically welcomed the Mr.Goodfish project in 2013, both for the issue it addresses and the methodological approach it employs (bringing together a panel of marine sector professionals, including scientists, producer organizations, fishermen, and others).
The Foundation took charge of promoting the program in the French Mediterranean basin, and a project manager was hired for this specific area, each with expertise in local species as well as the fishing issues specific to this ecosystem. Along this coastline as well, a committee composed of local stakeholders meets each season to provide recommendations to the general public and professionals regarding which seafood products are best to consume.
