In 2021, an estimated 37.7% of marine fish stocks were being fished at biologically unsustainable levels, 50.5% were being fished at maximum sustainable yield, and 11.8% were underfished (SOFIA – FAO 2024). If
this situation continues, it could jeopardize the future of an entire economic sector, from fishermen to consumers, including fishmongers and restaurant owners.
Mr.Goodfish aims to raise awareness among the entire fishing industry and consumers about this situation and to propose simple, positive solutions. If every French person consumed a species recommended by Mr.Goodfish just once a year, 18,000 tons of endangered species could be saved.
It is the collective action of the entire fishing industry and consumers that will safeguard the fishing economy and ensure we can continue to enjoy seafood in the future.
