Description

It is a medium-sized shrimp with a translucent body, marked by reddish-brown horizontal or diagonal lines on the cephalothorax (head) and vertical stripes on the abdomen. It typically measures between 8 and 10 cm, but can reach a maximum length of 11 cm, making it one of the largest shrimp of its kind in Europe.

Habitat
It is a marine and coastal crustacean. It is found mainly on rocky bottoms, in crevices, under rocks, or among seaweed and seagrass beds (such as eelgrass). It generally lives at depths of 0 to 40 meters. It is common in tide pools (rocky pools) at low tide.
Distribution
It is widely distributed throughout the eastern Atlantic, from the coasts of Denmark and the British Isles to Mauritania in the south. It is very common throughout the Mediterranean Sea as well as in the Black Sea.
