Description

Sea aster is a species of herbaceous plant, also known as pig's ear. It is a flowering plant that grows 20 to 60 cm tall, with clusters of flowers ranging in color from yellow to lilac to white. The leaves are green with a prominent central vein. It blooms in summer and early fall on cliffs and in salt marshes.
Habitat
The plant grows by the sea, in salt marshes.
Distribution
The sea aster is native to Europe, North Africa, and the temperate regions of Asia. In France, it can be found along all coastlines in salt marshes and, more rarely, in a few inland saline areas such as Lorraine. For example, the plant grows in the foreshores of Mont Saint-Michel Bay and the Bay of Somme.
