It is a species of red algae in the family Palmariaceae. A perennial, thick, and leathery alga, its thallus divides into elongated lobes like the fingers of a hand and can reach an average length of 20 to 50 centimeters.
Habitat
A common species of shallow waters, it lives attached to rocks or to the stipes of large kelps, Fucus, or Himanthalia, under which it hides from the light. Torn away by waves and storms and washed ashore, it is often found among the wrackline.
