Description

The meagre is a large fish of the Sciaenidae family, recognizable by its streamlined, silvery body with rough scales, a second dorsal fin twice as long as the first, a terminal mouth, and an elongated body that can reach up to 230 cm in length and 103 kg in weight.
Habitat
It is a marine, brackish-water, benthopelagic, and oceanodromous species, living at depths of 15 to 300 meters.
Juveniles are found in estuaries and coastal lagoons.
Distribution
It is found in the eastern Atlantic: from Norway to the Congo, including the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.
It is also found in the Red Sea via the Suez Canal.
