From 17 to 19 September 2025, the Mr.Goodfish3.0 team took part in the European Marine Science Educators Association (EMSEA) Conference in Ostend, Belgium, a yearly event gathering marine science educators and ocean literacy experts from across Europe and beyond. The conference provided a vibrant platform to exchange ideas, showcase innovative educational approaches, and build new collaborations to advance ocean literacy.

As part of the project’s participation, we presented a poster, which served as a conversation starter during coffee and lunch breaks throughout the event. This helped us informed attendees about Mr.Goodfish3.0’s efforts to promote responsible seafood consumption and engage citizens in sustainable ocean practices. Alongside the poster, we also brought a prototype of our upcoming educational game, Pillars of the Sea. Participants who stopped by were offered a sneak peek of the game ahead of its official launch on World Food Day, 16 October 2025, when it will be made available for download.

The project was also mentioned during Day 2 of the conference, in the session “Developing Youth Ocean Leadership and Advocacy Skills”, where Guillaume Lheureux from Nausicaá highlighted Mr.Goodfish3.0 as an example of how science engagement initiatives can empower businesses to act for increased ocean literacy and awareness among their customers.

For our team, attending EMSEA was both inspiring and strategic. With the awareness-raising campaign for responsible seafood consumption about to launch, the conference offered a timely opportunity to connect with educators, exchange insights, and better understand the challenges they face in bringing ocean issues into classrooms and communities.

Our presence in Ostend marked a soft launch of the campaign and strengthened our commitment to building bridges between science, education, and responsible seafood practices.
